The sinking of Tuvalu

Da.. până astăzi nu m-am gândit la așa ceva, că va fi o primă țară care să fie inghițită de ape..

Tuvalu va fi prima țara care se va scufunda ca urmare a schimbărilor climatice. Este formată de un grup de 9 insule din estul Polineziei cu suprafața totală de 26 Km2 unde întreaga populație (12.000) trăiește la mai puțin de 2 metri deasupra nivelului mării. Cel mai înalt punct din întreaga țara este 4 metri.

Iată un fragment din mesajul transmis de reprezentantul națiunii Tuvalu acum câteva zile în cadrul Summitului pentru mediu de la Copenhaga:

Madame President, this is not just an issue of Tuvalu.[...]millions of other people around this world are affected enormously by climate change. Over the last few days I’ve received calls from all over the world offering faith and hope that we can reach a conclusion on this issue.

Madame President, this is not a media trip for me. I have refused to take media calls on this issue. As a humble servant of the government of Tuvalu, I have to make a strong appeal to you that we consider this matter properly.

[..] We've had our proposal on the table for six months. Six months, it's not the last two days of this meeting. [..]

I woke this morning. I was crying. That’s not easy for a grown man to admit. The fate of my country rests in your hands...

Însă, ce poți face tu? Tu poți face multe, poți să te informezi, să conștientizezi, să iți schimbi comportamentul și să provoci pe cei din in jurul tău...
